Statement of Faith
Reading, affirming, signing, and abiding by the Statement of Faith are conditions of employment and participation in Southland Academy.
Our Statement of Faith is based upon the truths of scripture. The statements regarding the Person and work of Jesus Christ (the Gospel) as revealed in Scripture are those upon which all true Christians agree. It is the faith once delivered to the saints which distinguishes believers from nonbelievers. There are many other precious truths taught in the Bible over which godly men have differed in understanding. Therefore, this is not a statement of all that is important to believe, but of all that is essential to believe for Christian fellowship and unity at Southland Academy.
Final Authority for Matters of Belief and Conduct
This statement of faith does not exhaust the extent of our beliefs. The Bible itself, as the inspired and infallible Word of God that speaks with final authority concerning truth, morality, and the proper conduct of mankind, is the final source of all that we believe. For purposes of Southland Academy’s faith, doctrine, practice, policy, and discipline, our administrator and leadership team are Southland’s final interpretive authority on the Bible’s application for our co-op.
We believe the Scriptures are God’s written revelation to man, are inerrant in the original writings, and are complete in the 66 books of the Bible.
We believe in the existence of one true and living God, existing in three persons—Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
We believe that God the Father is the infinite and perfect Spirit who is the source and support of all things.
We believe that God the Son is the Eternal Son of God. He was born of the Virgin Mary, lived a sinless life, gave His life on the cross as a sacrifice for sin, rose bodily from the grave, and ascended back into heaven.
We believe that God the Holy Spirit is equal in essence to the Father and Son and is actively involved in the world bringing the lost to Christ for salvation and ministering to the saints.
We believe that the universe and mankind are the results of the direct and creative act of God in a literal six days, without any form of evolutionary process.
We believe that Adam was created in a state of innocence but sinned, falling from his original state. As a result, all of mankind are now sinners incurring the just condemnation of God resulting in spiritual and physical death.
We believe in the salvation of sinners who are reconciled to God through the finished work of Christ on the cross. Salvation is the work of God’s grace apart from human merit resulting in regeneration, justification, sanctification, and future glorification for all who repent and believe in Christ.
We believe in the conscious, eternal punishment of the lost in a literal hell and the blessed eternal bliss of the saints in a literal heaven.
We believe that all human life is sacred and created by God in His image. Human life is of inestimable worth in all its dimensions, including pre-born babies, the aged, the physically or mentally challenged, and every other stage or condition from conception through natural death. We are therefore called to defend, protect, and value all human life.
We believe that God created marriage to be exclusively the union of one man and one woman, and that intimate sexual activity is to occur exclusively within that union.
We believe that God wonderfully and immutably creates each person as either male or female, and that these two distinct, complementary sexes together reflect the image and nature of God.
