Introduction to Southland Academy
A Place for the Whole Family:
Southland Academy was founded in 2000 to support engaged and consistent homeschooling families in subjects that are more difficult for parents to teach at home and to offer a place for godly friendships and camaraderie to develop.
We offer top level courses for our high school and junior high (7th-8th) students, providing valuable classroom experience and individualized teacher feedback. Teachers provide semester grades that can be added to your student’s transcripts. We also offer enrichment classes for 5th-6th, 3rd-4th, 1st-2nd, and PreK-K, plus a PE class for all elementary grades.

How it Works:
A parent is permitted to enroll their student in any of our offered classes. High school students meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Junior high and elementary students meet on Tuesdays. Moms of Junior high and elementary students are required to stay at the co-op during Tuesday afternoons (12:35- 3:20). Moms serve an integral part in the operations of our co-op. Moms are needed to help out as an assistant to a teacher in one class on Tuesday (or Thursday). We also need moms, as well as all jr. and sr. high students, to help with cleaning or a set-up duty. When moms are not serving, they are free to fellowship for the remainder of their time at Southland.
Who We Are & How We Differ From Other Private Schools:
We are a group of around 80 families (with 150+ students) who are actively engaged in the home schooling experience. We want to build with families who are serious about preparing their children for the future and who continue to have oversight for their children. We are not based entirely on the “university model” of picking and choosing any or all offered classes where students are dropped off for the day. We do offer both “core” (required) classes and elective classes. We try to foster a place for friendships and academic help where all parents are involved and have final authority on their student’s learning. (We do not offer transcripts for high school.)
We are not an accredited school:
Southland is a group of families who have joined together to hire teachers for their children, and is not a government “accredited” school. Though semester grades are given for all junior and senior high classes which most parents use for their transcript grades, parents have final responsibility for grades, subject matter covered, and credits needed for graduation.
Our Costs:
Our senior and junior high classes range in cost from $155 -$180/per semester; our elementary program is $120/semester/student. Most junior and senior high classes have supply fees. Families purchase their own text books. Cost of dual credit classes vary. See course descriptions for more information. Each family pays tuition in full at the beginning of each semester. An $85 (nonrefundable) administrative fee is charged per family/per semester and a $15 elementary class materials fee/per family/per semester (only for students enrolled in the elementary program).
We have supervised study hall sessions on both Tuesdays and Thursdays for any student not in class but wanting to stay on the church premises. The cost is $30 per session, per student/per semester.

"Southland has been a wonderful place for my children and I to be involved with over the past 5 years. My junior high and high school children have benefited greatly from the teaching of our gifted instructors. My high school daughter has "found" her two best friends while attending Southland. My son, too, has made a very good friend. I am extremely grateful for that! I have met the most wonderful Christian families and enjoyed getting to know many other home-schooling moms."~ Judy H.
